We visited the National Gallery of Art and saw two exhibitions,
"Drawing on America's Past: Folk Art, Modernism and the Index of American Design" (link to the Gallery site) and "Deceptions and Illusions: Five Centuries of Trompe l'Oeil Painting" (link to the Gallery site).

Here's a mixed bag of photos from the Mall, museum and the next day, around Old Town, Alexandria, VA. Click on the small pictures for a larger image.

As we approached DC, crossing the Potomac, The Washington Monument was gleaming in the sunlight.
As we crossed the Mall, Victoria got a carefully composed shot. That's the Smitsonian Castle to the left.

Bill, Victoria and Patricia.

Big Calder mobile hanging from the ceiling of the Gallery's East Building.

A larger (287KB) image of the mobile.

Inside the routunda of the West Building.

Victoria and Kurt.

Victoria by herself, obviously.

Waterfall against plexiglass in the tunnel between the West and East Galleries.

East Gallery with the razor sharp façade.

You know what this is.

Typical Dutch Colonial architecture in Old Town Alexandria.
Victoria and Pat in matching barn coats.

After a brisk stroll we stopped in an English Tea Room for something warm to drink.

While Bill & Pat had sandwiches, Victoria and Kurt had sausage rolls. Excellent and just right on a cold afternoon! Served up with HP sauce!
